Lot Clearing
Grants Available
Through the Rural Communities Fuel Management
Partnership (RCFMP), communities in the Blue Ridge area are eligible
for grant money to clear lots for the health of the forest and for
wild fire prevention/control. This means that individual lot owners
can have their lots thinned and cleaned and may be reimbursed for
some of the cost.
Owners have some options:
-
work crews from the Winslow Prison will thin and
stack for $250/acre or they will thin and chip for $350/acre;
-
lot cleaners may be hired to do the work and the
owner reimbursed for some of the cost;
-
lot owners can clean the lots themselves and be
compensated for their work.
This grant money is based on volunteer time. So
people in the community will have to volunteer to work Bly Pit, for
example, to count the loads coming in and check for unwanted
materials. Lot owners have to apply for the grant money
first. Lot clearing services already completed are not eligible for
these grants.
